Plumbing and Firefighting
COURSE TITLE Plumbing and Firefighting
CREDIT Non-credit; 36 Hours; 12 Weeks; 3 Hours/Week

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Ensuring stable economic growth for the last decade, Cambodia is one of the fast developing countries booming in many sectors in which construction is the leading contributor with large numbers of high-rise buildings being constructed. Safety factor is considered the backbone of the buildings. Plumbing and Firefighting has been placed critically in the conceptual framework of building design for the overall safety of citizens in this modernized society. The field of Plumbing and Firefighting is not an easy task which can be taken up in a simple manner since it needs water calculations together with other related design activities. Thus, specialized skills in the field is the cornerstone of building protection.
This course is divided into two terms covering 36-hour class each. It is designed to equip students, engineers and relevant practitioners the features of design and operation of firefighting systems in which several more important components of the systems are thoroughly emphasized including the design and operation of fire alarm system, water-based fire suppression systems, water supply for fire protection, estimation of fire sprinkler pump, bill of quantity and so on.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Design the flow rate of water required for fire sprinkler system
- Determine pipe size through pipe schedule for fire sprinkler system
- Calculate pressure drop total through piping system
- Estimate capacity of the fire sprinkler pump
- Conceptualize schematic diagram for fire sprinkler system
- Estimate the capacity of the Fire Hydrant pump and its operation and assembly system
- Determine the capacity of the Fire Hose Reel pump and its operation along with assembly system
- Understand the application of both EBARA Fire Hydrant and Fire Hose Reel pumps
- Prepare materials and bill of quantities for firefighting system
